Opensim 2014 looking back

I like writing down my rather casual but hopefully informative thoughts I have concerning OpenSim during the past year. My desire is that people may find one or two or more links to further explore things. Or simply find it a passing blog of interest.

There is no special format here, but I do tend to focus on things related to hypergating, which is my own main focus.

My blog from last year shows quite a bit of change has happened.

One of my favorite commercial grids 3rd Rock Grid enabled hypergating for their residents in November, and an after HG enabling article shows they are very happy with it.

I am currently in funkie avie mode
The uniqueness of how they decided to do this is to have all regions HG disabled and resident renters can open if they wish to. Most are but I hear rumblings that some are leery of this, so are in a more watch and see mode. This is typical of closed commercial grid types of people, so it is no surprise to me. But they have enabled many of the grid owned regions, especially the ones they have events on.

Now I can use my main avie to HG and attend events as is my preference.

As well, a good friend of mine and her hubby are rebuilding their AAcme City on two regions they are renting. I am given to understand they can get the OARs so if this is true they need never be bothered with an entire rebuild, they can simply have the OARs uploaded anyplace they wish to do so. So now, for examples, if they used a hosting company such as Zetamex they could upload via the webgui tools, such as Kitely also offers.

She told me they are enjoying rebuilding it anyway, so that is cool too.

Another previously closed grid TangleGrid has recently launched their own open style grid. On their main grid they have chosen the route of enabling hypergating on a few regions in order to keep a better eye on activity. So they have a main region HG address: station 1 (more information here.)

As more and more grids enable hypergating we will reach a tipping point [and might have already in some regards] where enough impetus will fuel even more blogs, articles and events, which will also bring in new people whom have previously never heard of hypergating or whom have only heard the negatives mostly of a disinformation sort.

To my eyes a distributed and interconnected Metaverse [in kind similar to the internet as a whole] by way of hypergating is the future and basis for whatever other changes may come about. We need to get there, and the sooner the better.

Gone are the days of lock-in that SL started, gone are the days of needing to make an avatar in multiple closed can simply have a main avatar who travels, explores, meets others, collaborates, who attends events.

With other features such as Varregions and IARs and the freedoms inherent in the software people can have their own virtual lives as they wish them to be, and not artificially limited by some Grid Admin or Company seeking to profit.

It is fun for me to watch and participate in this and I see a very interesting future.

This article is pretty much the telling point, just as prior articles showed more land mass in Core OS than SL, now we have the hypergated Meta surpassing the closed concepts outside of SL. A metric inside a metric, if you will.

Of course there will always be people who for one reason or another will find fault in number crunching, and that's cool, really, because when one looks at all this in a broad brushstroke kinda way, the overall trending is what is important.

There has also been some new activity from people new to the HG life.

Roxy Gellar aka Roxy Roller on g+ has been working hard doing all that is needed to bring entertainers to Kitely and promote them out into the greater Meta. So far these are some of them.

Another newish person out promoting the hypergated Meta is Chic Aeon who reports in well thought out and informative blogs. She has joined in with g+ and is an active participant in the largest and most informative g+ Community Opensim Virtual which I suggest you join if you haven't yet. Talla Adam has done a wonderful job of creating a community of opensim users who contribute to it in many ways.

Zaphod Enoch continues to be very actively posting articles regularly on a variety of people and regions and grids. His blog is one I suggest you regularly visit and add in your g+ circles.

Other cool people such as Shawn and Leighton and Christine help people keep up with happenings also.

Thirza and her friends are running a weekly Hypergrid Safari where they are also very much interested in helping new people learn to hypergate. It is one of the top groups I recommend new to the HG join.

Bullet physics are out and people are slowly but surely coding for it specifically. One whom I like to watch is Shin Ingen as he does very good videos of what he is involved in, watch him.

Mike Hart is also very active and owns some really great regions especially for those into vehicles. Joe Builder does some interesting things also.

And I still call Metropolis my base and I have one region there, but more-so nowadays I use the moniker "ephemeral wanderer - Child of the Metaverse" lol. So Metro has my main avie but I have my inventory and OARs saved in my own computer [and in google drive] and mostly I use it to jump to other places via HG and attend Events in the grid, which are always pleasant affairs.

My region is very beautiful with all sorts of quality content shared by the creators. I am continually adding to it. You can hypergate to it via:

There are so many good, thoughtful, nice and sharing people I could never mention them all, but if you join in some places I note via links you can see for yourself.

I am very excited to see more people out sharing other peoples' regions, freebies, events, etc.

This should be enough for a nice article to help others see the way to learning more about all this. You might also follow things I note on the sidebars. There are tons of things going on, you only need to find the right people and places to see for yourselves. It is fun, it is relaxing, it is freedom. Peace out.

Metaverse Destinations II

Generally speaking, I don't post Shopping places, others do that quite well and I am more interested in Grand Builds and Artistic regions. Some I have made an exemption for and this is one of them. After Aine posted this I had to go by and see it. I like the ambience of it and of course her free things are par excellence to buy for -0- or take/copy. Aine is well known for her NPC dance machine as well as other NPC content, her animations, her Statues, but this new build has given her more room to expand. Artistically created to enjoy while shopping. HGTP@ Shopping
Craft's own meister builder Yoster Allen and Pixel Prim are wrapping up their Hildesheim build, a reproduction of one Germany's oldest cities, and Yoster's hometown! There will be a grand opening in October, but visitors are welcome to come by for a peek:)))) HGTP@
The Ivory Tower from SL and Lumiere Noir will not be forgotten. Continuing his build in OpenSim, Tosha Tyran has moved it to the Sanctuary Grid. Under finishing construction but wonderful as it is now, go by and explore, go by and visit often while she finishes it. I derendered the water and ground and set it in front of a white windlight 'cause I likes it dat way, and you better too! HGTP@
(The regions of Ivory City are now easier identifiable. They have been renamed into Ivory City 1 to 4 ;) City 1
I just saw this on and I love this movie! I didn't find Kevin Costner but I will definitely go back and keep watch. me love you long time! Kevin, big time! The region is really very well made with most of the main places in place. A Tina Bey project and you can HGTP@ film
Praline of FrancoGrid posted this recently so I dropped by for some photos. She had reposted and added other informations of this. Roxelo Babenco is the founder and owner of the Museo del Metaverso, a digital museum located in MdM SIM on Craft World and she is helping to bring in new Artists, one of which is White Paper ( aka Paula Abreu ). Roxelo's profile states;

"Il Museo del Metaverso (MdM), nasce Settembre 2007 in Second Life e, da Ottobre 2010, continua la sua attività  in Opensim, Grid Craft. Le opere, le  installazioni, l'architettura stessa del museo, le perfomance, gli eventi, gli artisti, gli amici, gli owner costituiscono una complessa opera concettuale, immersiva e performante, con riflessi positivi nel mondo reale."

Adjoining the region is "West", a creation by DC Spensley. The ground of Delicatessen is also very interesting. The White Paper exhibit is in the sky gtp (chatbar command or use the location section of the map ) 160 78 486 HG@

The Druid King and the River Lands Tales ... a medi-fantasy roleplay community. HG@ City
Have you been hunting for animals to add to your lands? Here they are, of all kinds, down into water animals. You might put aside an hour or so when you visit. Copy/take. HG@

"WANTED For Burglary with her Pet Mouse, Piere. Arcadia Asylum 17,000 L$ Reward. Wanted Alive for her treasure maps." I finally got myself off my lazy butt...well, ok, I was still sitting on my couch but you get the idea, and went over to my friend Virtual Christine's 13 regions she has on the Sanctuary grid chock full of what she says is the largest collection of Arcadia's work anywhere. It IS Imposing, I gotta tell you. Set aside some time and snag a ton of freebies while drooling. Looking north in this photo.

1001 Nights Region created by Dorothea Lundquist [and likely others]. Using 31 NPCs to create a really nice immersive build as well as decorated with period content, this is a must see in the free Metaverse. You might want to set aside a decent block of time to explore it. HG@ Nights
The New Francogrid landing point for foreign Avatars. There are a multitude of hypergate addresses collected by Praline. The overall construction is by Cherry Manga. The five sections are Knowledge, Art, Freebies, Grids, Hangouts.  HG@
I met Nacho Bizness, who, fortunately, let me be in his bizness and get my photo op. Cool region with a lot to see. He tells me much more freebies coming with mesh clothing. He is running a large varregion...he says 1,000,000m square's Inferno
The Devokan Trust is a Role-playing group managed by several people. I really do not know much about it and found this link in a quick search. Some people I know are in it and I had noticed a comment giving this HG address and I just dropped by. Several regions of interesting views but I liked this underwater spot for my photo op. pages
I was fortunate to see this machinima recently so I just dropped by to see it in person. I did have some issues trying to HG from Metropolis but in Kitely it found the region [but I did not go as I had non-exportable clothing on and didn't feel like changing]. I just wound up logging into FrancoGrid directly with an old avie account, then searching the map for EmptyRoom.

Follow the sit boxes and look around at each level. HG @
There is much to see here so you might make sure you have some time when you visit. The International Museum of Ceramics, the Moya Chapel, the Archaeological and Historic Museum of the Moya Civilization, Exhibition - Moya Masks and Metamorphoses.
A g+ friend had posted about this region so I made a note about it and got by this morning. Tons of awesome, fun, and generally cool freebies here, but what got my eye the most was the region surround. I really like such things, sometimes make them myself, sometimes using Selea Core's offsim creations. I even bought region surrounds from Zuza Ritt available in her Kitely MP. Thank you, Neb, for all this. HG @ world 01
Virtual Christine has been posting some regions in this grid lately, so I went by this one and found a great selection of guitars and other club related items. Lots of nice things in this shop & explore around this & adjacent regions to find more. HG @ then gtp [chatbar cmd] 15 61 31
3rd Rock Grid has enabled hypergating into their grid now. So another reason to start a page II is to specifically highlight them right away. They have taken a novel approach to enabling the hypergrid protocols. The default for regions is that it is off so that the renters can then decide to enable it when or if they so choose. I kinda like this idea. I expect many more to open up over time. Here is their current list.

A trip today to see this Castle. It is in a 2x2 varregion and is a work in progress. HG @
My first page of Metaverse Destinations can be found via this link. It was getting quite long and some have moved, or changed their name, or are not around anymore.

I want to keep the photos up regardless as part of my reason for doing these is to showcase some of the the wealth of talent and passion out in the Greater Meta.

Late Q3 Opensim thoughts

A lot is going on in the hypergated Meta. Previously closed grids are opening up, or are planning to enable the HG. This excites me. It continues to be more clear to me, and obviously a growing number of others, that an interconnected Metaverse is where to be, or join. Here is one example 3rd Rock grid about to enable the HG.

It is progress, not stale SL type business models, becoming more and more obsolete as the march of tech moves. I love progress, and I love being part of it.

The cross-grid collaborations are amazing. With land so easily rented from hosting companies [such as Zetamex -- whom, btw, are experiencing, atm, a lot of changes], or land easily hosted by oneself [see OpenSimulator and simonastick or other options].

This article is a little late. Not sure, yet, if due to a growing lack of interest in VR or just my general overall real life problems surfacing more. In any case, some thoughts.

You can, if you wish, click these links for previous entries.

Q1 Thoughts or Q2 Thoughts

There are currently two hypergate exploring groups. These groups search for, and find, all sorts of interesting places to visit on the HG. They are very good groups to join as they are very heavy into giving new people who have not previously known how-to or had not fully understood the value of hypergating, a group of others who wish to help them.

Thirza and her friends host this well-known group, Hypergrid Safari, where she posts her thoughts and some very good information, here. Please do yourselves a favor and bookmark her site, it is updated weekly [or more often] and if you follow links you can learn pretty much all you need to know about hypergating, and how to join in.

The weekly tours start, currently, at the Metropolis grid region of Outlands, on Wednesdays...
HG @

Serene from Kitely, with the help of others, hosts this touring group. They meet-up at the Kitely Welcome Region [all Kitely worlds show the HG address on the right center side]...

Want to explore others? Check this out regularly.

My friend Danko is trying out a new offering by the TangleGrid folks, some of whom I have known for a while now. Leslie Kling and her posse also offer monthly events that can be hypergated to. Here is Danko's blog with good information.

zaphod Enoch is doing some excellent coverage of regions and grids throughout the hypergated Meta. His articles, unlike mine which are often just a photo and HG address, each stand on their own and are more in-depth. Another to bookmark and review often.

Maria does a wonderful job of keeping up with happenings. Make sure and follow the numerous links @ Hypergrid Business. I continue to be hopeful she will focus exclusively on the hypergated aspect of OS as her website name suggests. In the meantime her Hyperica website is focused solely upon hypergating things going on.

The OpenSim Conference is coming up on its 2nd year. This is a must see, either in person or livestreams that will be available. They also have displays of all sorts of things going on in the Meta, see the schedule here and via other links.

There are several grids/regions moving around and/or merging. 3DGrid is merging with Metropolis, my base grid. [p.s. I no longer use the verbiage "home grid" as I consider myself having evolved to being a child of the Metaverse...heck, this might be my banner song-)) Desiderata].

By calling myself, in several places, an "Ephemeral Wanderer" I feel I am more able to be free to do as I wish, which, to my eyes, is what the internet is, and has always been. I am beholden to none, and not obliged to any one place...this leaves me free to speak well of multiple things going on in the Meta, without any favoritism.

Selby Evens recently mentioned Rockcliffe joining Kitely.

And AviWorlds Grid has seen some new mergers. Read about and/or join Alex's g+ Community by clicking that link. Mike Hart's very cool grid is the latest merger.

There are so many events happening, especially for Halloween, I will not mention them here, mainly because of information overload on my part. You can follow links or join g+ Communities to keep in touch best. Opensim Virtual is one of the top communities to read and/or join. It currently has 934 members.

And, that, my virtual friends, is just a taste of all going on the hypergated Meta. Join us and experience true freedom. Join us and explore wonderful region creations. Join us and have some fun, and relax. Join us to learn. Join us to be on the cutting edge of Virtual technology.

On being a Landlord...

So, I am finishing up dealing with what are the last renters I will ever be involved with in my life. I was in Real Estate for many years and have dealt with all sorts of renters and as a Property Manager I dealt with Subdivision Management and all the renters and owners in them.

Time moves along, things change.

I had needed renters the last few years in order to survive, but things changed again and they are no longer necessary.

The problem that always besets Landlords is that while most renters are decent people, there are, as with most things in life involving people, the bad apples.

Anyone who has rented out their own homes, or who has been involved with the rental aspects in Real Estate, has to always keep in mind that whatever they do to try and insure they have a decent renter, might not be the case when they have to force them to leave by using the eviction laws.

How evictions are handled varies by State and even within individual Counties within each State. The reality is that what a layman reads as standard laws of the land are, in practice, often much different.

In reality, Judges have much power and leeway in the specifics of how they rule, and this largely depends upon how they perceive justice is to be served by arbitrating Landlord/Renter issues.

Some are more pro-renter than pro-landlord, for example, and this effects how they make their judgments.

While the laws are often written with good intentions, it is how they are interpreted that in reality rules the lands. Even to if you happen to know the Judge, or someone in their staff, or cops involved, etc., these things can be utilized, as with people's networks in business and such, to help get the rulings you want.

These last renters I am now finishing up with pushed the boundaries of decent civilized actions, and reactions. While wishing to use the system to "protect" themselves, they have lied to cops and the Judge, and to his staff, their own friends and family...all in order to not pay me for the actual reason I allowed them to be on my land in the first place, the overriding base agreement...that I am paid a certain agreed upon amount of money and in exchange they have access to my land, space to live on, and use of my utilities.

And, guess what, this whole problem revolved around them not being able to afford $75 a week, does this speak to the root problem, to you, better?

This is an underlying problem with many human interactions, thus why laws are made and courts exist, and cops are needed. It all has at its roots the desire to keep societies civilized and ordered, even as much as it is likewise true that this is a constant battle to try and accomplish, and will never fully happen, humans being diverse and ofttimes problematic.

As well, from a landlords perspective, we have to be very careful in our dealings with renters because we have a certain set of guidelines which give us certain ways of handling issues that arise. Landlords are, in effect, the glue that holds these interactions together, they are those who have invested time and money into making their land or housing available for the larger majority of those who rent.

It is their investment, and they deserve to profit as they did the time, they spent the money. If they are not experienced in such matters, or, for other various reasons, cannot manage their holdings themselves, they will find a Property Manager, which is one thing I did in Real Estate.

As well, the human perspective is, in my opinion, something to always consider foremost. You actually cannot be a good and, hopefully, profitable, Landlord without this. Renters do not have this obligation, theirs is the easy course.

Which segues nicely into my little tirade here.

I always consider the human side of things, such as that people have bad days, people get ill, people get cranky sometimes, and people are really only mere humans, subject to all that comes with that.

However, the fact of the matter is there are people who are users, they take rather than give, their entire lives are based upon this "code" of how they live, it is a dog eat dog life, preying upon the weak, or those perceived to be weak, even those who have less than they do in life.

There are those people for whom taking from others, even such low amounts of money or in-kind "things" is simply "how they live" and they have all sorts of reasoning behind this, and actually believe they are smart, and in some regards even "doing the right thing".

But any more deeper view into their psyche can show even the simplest of humans, that they are not what they wish to appear to be by their peers. However...

They do not realize another basic of humans, that people gravitate towards those who think and do things similarly. While this may seems obvious to many, it is not so obvious to them.

For example, these last renters peer group is other criminals who are takers and users, they even use each other in a never-ending cycle of base simplistic life. They actually have no clue whatsoever of how decent and civilized people do things.

While these last renters have caused me many problems, all unnecessary, but based upon their general worldview, and enabled by those around them who think the same way, or those they have lied to in order to get them on their side, the fact remains that they will eventually be out of my life completely, and will go on to screwing other people, their peers and their families, and have no clue at all that this is what corrupts societies, nor do they even care.

The fact remains that time is fleeting, losses can eventually be paid [and in several ways], fixed, replaced, or simply left as they are. Their time in my life was around 10 months, which is nothing, really, just as them and their types of humans are... nothing... really.

They think they are smart, they think what they are doing is OK, they think that lying and stealing and using is just fine...because it is a dog eat dog life, they you might as well be the dog who eats another, rather than be eaten yourselves.

None of that is really, intrinsically true, and it is why such people usually have long criminal histories that stretch throughout their lives, and why they are always on the move, from one rental to the next, from one "friend" to the next, using people as they go, and living an existence that is entirely bereft of basic human compassion and civilized behavior.

One of them said yesterday that they have to get rid of the snakes and bugs infesting the place they live in now...I mean, really, does this irony escape us?

But this all is exacerbated and corrupted by both the law and how those people use it to their own small advantages. The laws of the land wish to allow impartial judgments arbitrating human matters in contention...thus they wish to protect renters from abuses by those Landlords who in fact would call those who abuse the system in negative ways as renters their peers...even if not in fact, but reality.

They are the of the same cloth, the same similar mentality.

This all makes it hard for the legal systems to find the truth, and only the written word has much force, and even that can be manipulated...the entire issue is fraught with problems from the git-go, and all Landlords with any experience know this well.

I do, and I did, but...

I made a conscious and considered decision, years ago, that I would no longer let others dictate to me how and what I should do, that I would try my best to take the high road, rather than let the takers and users pull me down to their low level. This is a very difficult thing to try and do as they do things that absolutely force you to deal with them in a lowbrow type of way, or they will just continue on abusing you, taking from you, and using you.

I made this conscious and considered decision knowing full well this would also bring with it its own problems, and that the users and takers would perceive this as being weak, and pounce, as vultures do.

I made this conscious and considered decision because I decided in my sunset years I wanted to treat people as decently as I could, and to remove that civilized way of life as those people showed me they had no basic comprehension of civilized behavior, would try to do.

But they actually, in reality, have no hold on me at all.

Thus as happened with these last renters, they perceived me as weak and in their small minds they used it to pounce and use me. But they simply have no clue.

I am forced by law to allow them to get their stuff off my land, until the 19th of this month, under certain prescribed conditions and by mutual agreement. And I am forced by law to allow them to bring in other criminals and lowlifes on my land to help them move their things out. I also fully expect that while I am going to try and get the courts approval to obtain some of the monies they owe me, that in the meantime it is very likely they will trespass on my land and cause me other problems. There is really not much I can do about the latter, and in reality not much I can do about the former either, so I still have that decision to fully consider if it is worth even more stress and time.

I have to consider if pursuing the principle moral high ground overrides the extra costs in time, money and stress. It may not, and the small losses will just have to be dealt with by making hardship pleas to the electricity company and my mortgage holders, and similar things that "write the whole thing off" not as another lesson learned, as I already knew such things very well, but as simply a way to move on.

I never knew life to be simple and carefree.

Why does this personal and partial anecdote of my life pertain to this blog, a VR blog?

It does because we are all humans here, going on about our lives, doing such things for all sorts of reasons, many just to escape difficult lives as best we can.

There is the commercial land renting side of this started by SecondLife that others have taken to other places. Renters renting from those grid owners and renters renting from those renters, to smaller and smaller pieces of virtual pixel land spaces. There is a whole business related to all that, and forms the basis for SL and other similar grids [those being the minority of the greater whole of the Metaverse].

And as in our real lives, it has similar problems and issues, but in these cases it is whatever systems set up by the grid owners that they must take their case to and plead for their self-appointed arbitration of some kind.

This leads, in turn, to the actual ability of those arbiters to actually know how to properly arbitrate, right? Those arbiters of the last resort are not trained judges [afaik], they are not trained in the intricacies of landlord/renter disputes and law, and...

They do not even have to be. All they need to be is someone who wishes to do such a thing, and can gather around themselves enough people, often by hook or by crook, in order to sustain themselves in whatever monetary level that makes them feel comfortable [which, of course, is entirely an individual thing].

They do not need to be versed in real land management because this is actually not real land. All they have to do is "market" themselves, and they do not even have to be truly experienced marketers either.

Then there is the illusions that some people have that they actually "own" these not real land spaces. The only people who own such spaces are those who run the software on their own or rented hardware, and those who have the full authorities built into it.

And as many people are well aware, it can be gone in the next second, with actually no real recourse in compensation to pixel content lost, and more importantly, time invested.

But for many of us, time we have aplenty, for some, not so much.

So, as in my personal reality issues of being a landlord, you have similar "land" issues in this current iteration of VR, but less the laws and courts and systems set up in order to find an impartial and fair arbitration.

Who do you go to with issues? Why do you think they actually know how to deal with such things, because they tell you? because they run a grid? All grid owners, especially those wishing to profit, have their own personal agenda, and, of course, this is predicated upon making profits...without profits they cannot survive, they will be forced to close down, they will have to find other ways to live, and often they simply have no other ways, their entire lives are based upon making enough money from their grids to maintain or try to improve their own personal lives, to think otherwise is only simple naivete.

You might say these things are obvious, but any reading of any amount will often show you that not only is there a certain type of human who simply does not understand this, or are themselves trying to do a similar thing, who also have no real clue to how to deal with renters, they just want to do it. And they have no real trained arbitrator to get help from, because those self-same arbitrators of last resort are themselves in the same business. In reality if a Judge knows someone that comes before them personally, it is often wished that they recuse themselves...though in reality, this also, is often abused.

Recusing oneself speaks to basic fairness, as this definition speaks to; recusal reasons.

So, you cannot have a fair or impartial arbitrator who is actually renting lands also. It is simply not possible and is in fact a conflict of interest, but people often do not even consider such things, and within that % of people, many are not even aware of this conflict.

It is a basic tenant of natural law for a very good reason. A litigant in such a situation can even find ways to ask for this recusal if the Judge does not do it themselves, but always be aware of the "good 'ol boy" fraternity/sorority of judges where they talk amongst themselves.

So beware of those with agendas that could be contrary to your own interests due to conflicts, those takers and users, sometimes lacing their words with pats on the head or using your own interests against you.

They are not unlike my own last renters, of the same cloth, of similar breeding and stock, their peers.

But, this too, shall pass.

I have been using the hypergating aspect of core OpenSim for around a year and a half now. I first started using it when I finally found the free Metaverse, and found that there was a vast interconnected system for seeing thousands upon thousands of fascinating expressions of imagination.

So many Artistic, Educational, Hobby and downright fun grids and regions, I will never see them all!!!

Personally, I love the freedom inherent in such a thing. It speaks to my old flower child inner self in ways that are very satisfying to my soul.

With hypergating, and the ability of people to create vast expanses covering multiple standard OS regions sizes of 256x256 and now the latest Varregion, we are able to enjoy much more detailed builds.

Creations of real places in the world, and any other builds you can imagine, are no longer limited to a 256x256 size SL imposed region size, and as this new ability permeates the greater Meta, it will be even more amazing to explore. Couple this with that VarRegions do away with any of the old border crossing issues, exploration takes on a whole new meaning.

I love it!

There are several tutorials from different perspectives, on how to hypergate, and the ins and outs of it all. One of my favorite Metanautes, and someone I call a friend, is Virtual Christine who has a very good and simple how-to guide on hypergating, with links to more. It is very useful to take some time and read up on her other blogpages.

Hypergating involves traveling between one person's server/home simulator installation to other's. So, obviously, it can be fraught with various issues. One could compare it to the early days of the Internet, where going to other people's websites would have all sorts of various problems. If you were on the net in the early days, you know very well to what I am referring to.

As well, some people do not run their simulator[s] 24/ if it does not show up in your map, there are always tons of other interesting places to visit in the meantime, or, just wait a while, or, goodness to gracious, go outside and smell some roses!! [I know... that last part is blasphemy!!]

However, with each new version of core OpenSim come improvements to all sorts of various issues in order to make things work much more smoothly.

The latest 0.8_Release included quite a bit of improvements submitted by Oren Hurvitz of the Kitely grid, in order to help themselves to more smoothly integrate with the rest of the Metaverse via the HG. His, and others, commits can be found here.

Always keep in mind you are dealing with moving among other's systems, just as if you went to a webpage someone has hosted across the world from you. However, where Internet protocols have developed over many years to make such trips seamless, OpenSim has a much shorter history and is currently being developed by non-paid technical people.

One of the issues still to be more fully addressed is when someone initially hypergates in and their inventories often cause chatlag and other various slow down issues. Until that is fully fixed, it is best, for an optimum experience, to either use an alt with little [think basic clothing] inventory, or in various ways, keep your own inventory as low as possible.

Another idea could be to make an account in other hypergrid enabled grids in order to keep your avie name, such as FrancoGrid or Craft-World, and just keep in inventory whatever you need for clothing and other avatar accessories.

Also keep in mind you are not inside a single grid where textures and other assets are already part of it, and your cache...with hypergating, if you have not previously been to a place, you will be caching new UUIDs because they usually, but not always, run their own database.

In OpenSim you can save your inventory, in full or in part, using Inventory Archives, or just expect your entry will slow you down, and others in that simulator instance, all depending upon the resources the entry place has given the simulator. We are only talking about, usually, a few seconds, but depending upon several circumstances, it can add up to more minutes before you can move freely.

As well, seasoned hypergaters generally leave vanity at the door. Attachments, often hair, can only be seen by yourself or sometimes not at all. Nothing to bother with, it is all about the fun of it anyway, and it is getting better with each new version. [eta: a patch for this issue has been contributed to core OS by Oren of Kitely. It is propagating throughout the Meta as others update their simulators to current versions. It is, I believe, in the .81 dev version at this time, which many do use.]

There is a newly formed Hypergrid Touring group in Kitely.

Hypergating is getting some new blood in it, getting new interest, and it is a fun and fascinating thing to be a part of.

Q2-2014 OpenSim

It is the halfway point in the year, and I wanted to take a moment to throw out some more personal observations for those who may find them interesting enough to read, or something to ponder over your morning coffee and donuts.

My Q1 observations are here. Please ignore the mistake I made in the URL, but I did see it after publishing and corrected the title ;-)

The Metaverse is doing very well. Much has happened in the past 3 months. You can also look at the sidebars for further places to go read up on current things, if you wish.

Kitely, as you can see on their blog, has been moving forward with quite a bit of innovation.

I was especially pleased to see them enable hypergating. A hypergate connected Metaverse is my primary focus and motivation for staying involved, so the more who see this for its value, the better, to my eyes.

It is worth your time to read up on them, I promise.

As Kitely is a commercial style OpenSim grid, it is an important paradigm changer for the Owners to not only do quite a bit of coding work behind the scenes in order to make it work for permissions and such other commercial type aspects, but to see that enabling hypergating is a forward and progressive way to move ahead.

They are also involved in Core OS improvements, as noted here, where you can find the main Kitely programmer listed as orenh1, and where you can also note other contributors and read the various things done, most of which is completely over my own

As well, they enabled delivery from the marketplace to any grids who wish to receive content from their creators. This, in turn, has not only given the rest of the Meta legally licensed content previously only available in the closed sl commercial style grids [or in SL] but has also given content creators a vast new market to sell to.

This is a very important development for the Metaverse and I expect to see other currently closed sl clone type grids to follow, or, if not, to eventually fail. But this is the way of technology.

My personal hosting company for my regions, Zetamex, has been making various changes in their business model as the tech moves forward, and I am still very satisfied with what they do, and their customer service. They recently added support for the new VarRegions and Bullet physics which was added to OpenSim, as noted here with information on .8.

I have my Zetamex regions hosted inside Metropolis and I still very much enjoy the grid, the people in it, the spirit of sharing and the vision of the admins. Metropolis is the HUB of the free Meta, with several roleplaying regions, historical recreations, events, Artistic endeavours and an upcoming Democratically elected grid management team which the details are still being discussed.

Even though both Metropolis and Kitely have few total numbers, they are alive with activity which keeps me more than busy with the time I have to spare.

As it is on the hypergates, I can HG out to other places as events come up, such as Kitely, FrancoGrid, Craft-World, etc. Hypergating is so freeing and appeals to the old flower child in me.

As noted above, the latest released version of OpenSim is .8. This version is a rather large one and includes several major changes and enhancements. One is the move to Bullet physics as the default [while still allowing people to continue using ODE physics by changing some lines in their OS files [forgive me, that tech is beyond me]. The other major change is the integration of VarRegions into core.

VarRegions, from this layman's perspective, allow very large land masses that have no typical 256x256 region border issues, as there are none up to the size of whatever one wishes to make them, only limited by computer resources, afaik.

While one grid, inwz, continues to try and keep people misinformed of the full nature of these improvements and innovations, mainly by insisting it is better to simply keep the standard SL created region sizes and work on making the border crossings seamless, the VarRegions just blow on past such antiquated old-tech notions.

To be fair, however, inwz has invested quite a bit of time on their coding efforts in this regard, so it is clearly in their best interests to maintain this illusion. Which is fine. It is, however, my opinion that relying on, and trying to improve, [what is it exactly?] 10-13 year old technical limitations is rather self-defeating, but that is just my own subjective non-tech thinking.

The rest of OS now has the option, and many have already updated or are in the process of updating, to keep up with the current tech innovations. I see this as the simple march of software and I find it fun and interesting to be involved with, even as the simple end user of it as I am.

Recently, and still with an ongoing debate, Linden Lab, owners of SL, have announced some future changes. Some discussion can be seen here in a Firestorm Viewer blog on the matter. My personal take on this latest issue there is that it is, again, good for the rest of the Meta. It is my observation that many current SL residents are looking for options and only need a slight push/suggestions to show them there are such options, and they can see for themselves.

What the future holds, of course, is anyone's guess. Technology is a moving thing, often paradigm changers happen that result in all previous software becoming obsolete. Being an old time computer user, this has always been the fun part for me, but also having become rather set in my ways over time, I do find some aspects hard to keep up with.

The Occulus Rift buyout by Facebook will likely change the face of VR within the next year or so, and such that the entry costs may become something people such as myself, on fixed incomes, will no longer be able to afford. But this is hard to foresee since we know that as software often comes down in pricing with larger markets opening up, so will the hardware, just as computers themselves have done over time.

On the other hand, there has been some interesting work done with browser based VR simulations, as noted in this HyperGrid Business article. I actually tried this, as noted in the comment section.

In any case, this is just some quick observations on the state of some aspects of VR, as I see it I will see it in the future is for the future to show me.

Metaverse Mafia --A Fictional Story--

There exists, deep within the flotsam of human depravities and detritus; living among the hovels & open sewage; amid the thieves and among the pimps and their prostitutes; walking amongst the human traffickers and drug traffickers…The Metaverse Mafia.

It is a real thing, make no mistake about this.

Hello, by way of a short introduction; I am Detective Investigator Susanetta Romoli |- a nom de plume to conceal my true identity since my work is all undercover -|.

I have recently been hired to oversee a new division of the International Cyber Anti-Thugs to bring my Administrative and deeply Investigative personal skill-set to get this Division moving in the right direction.

This is a temporary position as I am more sorely needed elsewhere. I decided to accept this position in return for a favor given many years ago, by a dear friend in the CAT.

I will note the letter of request;

Dear true and valued Friend,

As the Virtual Reality aspects of the Internet have increased in popularity and due to the recent purchase by another social network, Facebook, of the Occulus Rift, an immersive headset in its early stages of development, we here at CAT decided to create a new division to address a growing problem.

Various, and more and more frequent reports have come to our attention that there is a nefarious subset of people using this medium to spread disinformation, misinformation, bad-will, and appallingly ill-mannered pontifications, upon the rest of the good people of the Metaversum |- as we call it -|.

They use various and a sundry tool available to the Internet as has always been. They create guest accounts, use anonymous postings, use proxies, use shillabars |- an interesting article -|, and they create something unique to Virtual Worlds, alts.

Alts, or alternates, are simply other incarnations of a single individual using another name and presenting themselves in a distinctly different way than their other avatars.

There are many good and valid reasons for Alts, also, which adds levels of complexity.

In due regard to a favor I once performed for you in my capacity as a Junior Administrator with CAT, I would ask for you to intently consider bringing your skills into our newly formed Division that will specifically address the aspects of VR Anti-Thugging, or VRAT. |- but fondly referred to as BRAT within CAT -|

We at CAT will use your highly regarded Administrative abilities and continue hence forward once you have established the Division on a firm footing with strong legs.

You may, of course, contact me by various communicative ways known only to you, and not to be published in the missive as a reminder.

I remain, your devoted supplicant, admirer, and friend, with utmost and enduring regards,

Alford Katzmann |- also a nom de plume, as you know -|

Répondez s'il vous plaît, Mon Chéri.

Capitulum Unum~

"If suffering brings wisdom, I would wish to be less wise." ➳ William Butler Yeats

The major part of my life was spent in fine-tuning my Investigative skills. In turn, doing so has given me the ability to more easily discern complex human interactions and connect dots, in a kind of "out of the box" type of thinking.

As well, being an Independent Business Woman for most of my life, I have developed a keen ability to administer. In business it is important to delegate, but more than that, to delegate properly and responsibly.

Delegating properly often means trying people in various positions and with various authorities, in order to find where they most uniquely fit. Sometimes they simply cannot be properly positioned as I would wish, but if they have talents in some regard useful to my affairs, then I can usually find a nice niche for them, where they, and I, are comfortable. It then becomes beneficial to us both.

As, over time, my lifetime of knowledge and proven skills have come to the attention of others, some highly placed in various Business and Government entities, I have often been called upon to help them in various regards and in various projects. Some of these have been short-term, some longer, and some in roles "behind the scenes" that very few people are aware of.

I have developed an extensive list of friends, acquaintances, Business and Government contacts, and many other talented and interesting people with whom I regularly communicate with in order to keep a well-oiled network to help me along in my endeavours. These are people from all walks of life, and both rich and poor, those who dwell among the famous and those who dwell among the sewer rats.

All my extraneous projects have been on a retainer basis in a contractual business relationship. I must at all times be able to exercise my free will, and those who opportune themselves upon me, know this as a given.

I am a simple but feisty Grandmother. Life has given me many interesting opportunities, but my children and their children take center stage with me in the sunset of my life. As a result, all inquiries that request my time are sifted, filtered and strained through those that I most enjoy in my life now.

Some say I am wise, I say to them that I have just enjoyed the study of human nature, most of my life, and I still find humanity very intriguing.

If there is any true wisdom I have found, it is that life often does not turn out as we expected when younger, and to roll with the changes will lead to a much more peaceful & graceful co-existence, more tuned to natural ways.

My acceptance of this current assignment with the VRAT division of CAT should lead to more interesting discoveries of the variety of human nature, which is the main reason I accepted the honour.

My intention will be to delegate the most visible aspects to those I will either hire, whom I have known for certain skills, or find within the Organization those I can adapt to most favorably conclude my part in it, in the most expedient way possible.

I have been given very wide authorities and the budget will be determined by me.

My primary purpose, as stated, is to create the administration and administrative aspects of the Division. Doing so will require setting out the primary Mission, finding and delegating the various Department heads, finding and putting in place those people whom will help to insure the Division will most well proceed when my task is done.

Caput duobus~

"She had already allowed her delectable lover to pluck that flower which, so different from the rose to which it is nevertheless sometimes compared, has not the same faculty of being reborn each spring." ➳ Marquis de Sade

My first month on the job has given me many rewards, allowed me to renew several friendships, and added a new dimension to my worldview.

Virtual Worlds are endlessly fascinating. They allow insights into the human condition not found in any other medium. I have decided that when this Contract expires, I will take personal time and further explore this.

I immediately made contact with Petunia Mcdougall. She has been invaluable to me on several projects and her acute ability to intuitively grasp what is needed for me to stay on schedule and allow me to focus on more overall Administrative issues has helped us both in numerous ways.

Petty and I start each day, as has been our wont, reviewing the previous day and confirming what is needed for the current day. Her wit and humour intertwined with the enjoyment of an excellent fresh bean gives us both a wonderful introduction to our business at hand. So we sit, enjoy our coffee, enjoy each other’s company, make some small talk and brainstorm. She helps me to stay focused and keeps my schedule impeccably managed.

Wilfred Richer and I have been acquainted some 30+ years now. Wil is a wizard with people. He can sit with someone for an hour and know exactly where they will best fit into a project. I made him Manager of Human Resources. He, in turn, has hired several key people with various abilities, support staff, and other people necessary to fill out the Department.

In the matter of procurement of supplies, tools, machines and various other and sundry necessary items needed to support the project and the people involved, I was very happy that Chrissy Thrainsson was available and agreed to join us. She heads our Buyer Department.

Computer Resources, and our IT Department, is headed by Gabriella Matarazzo. Gabby is a wonderfully intelligent and vivacious energetic soul. She brings to the table a very acute knowledge and understanding of computer systems. A true hacker at heart, she is someone who thinks "outside the box" and gets the job done, rather than stand upon simple tried and true methodologies. Her contacts within the hacker and programming world subset give her the ability to fact check and brainstorm ideas across a wide spectrum. Her Department is a core necessity due to the VR aspect, and she has agreed to participate indefinitely, which will be a matter for discussion, and proper offer with perquisites upon my departure. Currently she is, as are we all, on a Contractual basis.

Alford and I have been able to become more closely acquainted due to our proximity within the current offices now situated amongst the CAT building complex. He is a well articulated Man, and by virtue of his extensive travels has developed a dignified and personable nature, well tuned to a world view that encompasses many aspects of human nature. He is a Company Man and throughout his 53 years with CAT he has progressed through the ranks to his current position as Under Secretary and right-hand Man to Cornell Erickson, the current and long-standing Administrator. On a personal note, while he is a most handsome Man, with beautiful, soft-looking, slightly greying facial hairs and a continually amusing glint to his eyes, I also find his company to be very appealing.

Caput Tres~

"Man, unlike anything organic or inorganic in the universe, grows beyond his work, walks up the stairs of his concepts, emerges ahead of his accomplishments." ➳ The Grapes of Wrath

--Mission Statement--
  • We will ethically and morally attempt to discern reality from the virtual reality.
  • We will attempt to stay above the common fray and frailties of humanity.
  • We will look at all aspects, as best we can, with an eye towards finding "tattva".
  • We will look under every rock, every pebble, and leave no stone unturned.
  • We will take the collected data and turn it in every possible way to dissect it as completely as possible.
  • We will be honest with those we contact, and with ourselves.
  • We will be as transparent as possible while maintaining our mission parameters.

This Division has a complex and intricate assignment to perform. Since VR is a moving technology, changing rapidly in some regards, and ofttimes rather quickly, it is our task to keep open minds. It is necessary to become knowledgeable of the various aspects. It is important to discern various agendas and motivations.

We will accomplish these tasks using various means available to us. We will talk to the basic free players, the Artists, the Performers, the Admins, the Hobbyists, the Educators, the Programmers and Scripters, the movers and shakers.

We will read, and we will watch, and we will participate.

We know this task will extend past our time within VRAT, and that others' will proceed henceforth. We extend our hand to those to come and lay the groundwork in order to help you continue posthaste.

Caput Quattuor~

"Change in the world comes from individuals, from the inner peace in individual hearts. Just as ripples spread out when a single pebble is dropped into water, the actions of individuals can have far-reaching effects." ➳ Dalai Lama

Alford and I had dinner last night. It was a simple affair, down at the local Steakhouse. We shared a lovely and most tender Châteaubriand, it was quite delicious. With side dishes of mixed vegetables made in an Indian curried style and a spicy Texas bean recipe, the entire dinner was most satisfying.

We made small talk during the meal and while enjoying a very nice bottle of Gewürztraminer, or two.

Alford enjoys life in the true spirit embodied in "C'est la vie!" and his company is quite enjoyable, the talk interspersed with humour, wisdom, and a cavalier but cosmopolitan worldview.

As the dinner was being finished, and while the wine served us well to remove much of the tension and inhibitions associated with such intimacies, the talk veered towards more business related things.

We discussed how things were going, is it moving forward in the direction intended, are we ready to move to the next stage, how is the staffing going.

I love the expressions on his face, all, it seems, carefully orchestrated and nuanced in order to effect the desired result...fascinating. Complex Men have always intrigued me and give me endless amusement as I work out discerning their various levels. Many Men feel they are complex, while this is only a simplistic perception related to Ego those have.

Truly complex Men are, de facto, less easily manipulated, or totally inured to any manipulations since they are usually much to perceptive to fall so easily to such contrivances, and thus more challenging to women who can discern these differences, and whom appreciate them.

Men filled with their own egos are simply to simple-minded to my eyes.

We ended the dinner at the coat room, where he was the quintessential Gentle man, helped me with my coat, walked me to my car, and bid me adieu, with a slight and delicate touch on my left shoulder, slightly running his fingers down a tuft of my hair, quite nicely diffident... but also adding a most delicious intimacy.

The next morning Petty and I discussed our usual discussibles, and I brought up the dinner. She was all agog and wanted to know all the slightest details...she knew I had my eyes on him. I shooed her off with a dismissive wave of my hand and a coquettish smirk...Oh là là!!, we had important business to get on with!

Today we make our first foray inside a virtual world!

For this task, Wilfred had hired someone already acquainted with the grid called FifthLife. He was a, what they call, resident, for some years already. Amerigo Guay is from Peru and is a sharp wit quick on the uptake, exactly what we need to be our initial eyes and always, Wil picked the right person for the job. Amerigo uses the pseudonym, Teodoro Ricart-Costa, still somewhat Hispanic.

FifthLife is by far the largest VR Grid at this time, full of a wide assortment of eclectic and interesting Avatars. Within it's "virtual" walls one can find anything these virtual worlds have to offer. We are all most excited.

Caput Quinque~

“There are not more than five musical notes, yet the combinations of these five give rise to more melodies than can ever be heard.

There are not more than five primary colours, yet in combination they produce more hues than can ever been seen.

There are not more than five cardinal tastes, yet combinations of them yield more flavours than can ever be tasted.” ➳ Sun Tzu, The Art of War

We have initially tasked Amerigo to show us various broad brush aspects of FL |- FifthLife -|. We want the office to watch him go about this grid and explore, while recording.

There has been a very large monitor setup so that the entire office can view it easily. As well, the images are accessible via all computer terminals Live or recorded. Several people have been tasked to review the recordings and make notes with timestamps of various things they may find useful. We wish to immerse ourselves as best as possible, while still maintaining a certain degree of aloofness in order to keep objectivity.

Daily this data is collated into a report for my own review. Weekly the Supervisors and other salient employees meet in the Board room and brainstorm. These weekly meetings have a revolving door approach with various people in order to give fresh perspectives on the variety of collected information.

Over these past few weeks Amerigo has shown us amazing Steampunk style places, Artistry unparalleled via any other medium, beautiful visions of individuals and communities, the bordellos and the Escort services...sexual liaison places and secret romantic spots. Renditions of communities not much unlike the real world, and those exhibiting fanciful futuristic concepts.

Through his eyes and using his knowledge of the medium, we have been able to develop a living dictionary of the lingo, as all such communities have, and to get to know, as best we can, some of the major players and get an overall sense of VR.

We will be further exploring the Underground aspects where we expect that those who profit in some regard, who prey upon the weak and the deviant aspects of human nature, where the Mafia will be found.

Caput Sex~

“Engage people with what they expect; it is what they are able to discern and confirms their projections. It settles them into predictable patterns of response, occupying their minds while you wait for the extraordinary moment — that which they cannot anticipate.” ➳ Sun Tzu, The Art of War

Amerigo has acquainted himself with Lisetta Shroff, one of the most sought after "ladies of the night".

One of the vices satisfied in FL is done by way of Escort Services. As these women offer their ears to the "pillow talk" of many kinds of men, they find out much of what happens within the grid, from the male perspective. Lisetta is particularly skilled in this love to talk of intimate affairs in such quasi-anonymous situations.

So she also trades in information, getting it and selling it and giving it away, to those she has decided to take into her confidence. She is not haphazard in this regard, non, but quite purposeful. A woman, who while a dilettante, likewise enjoys her hobby.

Amerigo, via various artifices, has managed to finagle himself, rather astonishly quickly he ingratiated himself into her inner circle. Lis is a wonderful conversationalist, hence her success...and there are few women with such light-hearted and carefree wit. We think this is why her and Amerigo hit it off so well, their thinking and approach to life is very simpatico.

Lis has acquiesced in Amerigo's plans, has been given some slight understandings of such, and will do as she can to exacerbate it forward.

Caput Septum~

"The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision." ➳ Helen Keller

Amerigo has done a superb job of gathering around himself quite a few interesting, and well connected, people, not only Lis, but also Morrie Laird.

Morrie is a prolific and energetic Artist who creates such ephemeral exhibits of wonder people from all over FL come to see, if they are lucky enough to catch one before he moves on to the next.

Alphonse Zaphiris is an administrator over 69 regions. He has several staff with whom he delegates various duties with certain authorities. Al has given us, through the eyes of Amerigo, a deep insight into the workings of Region Administration. It is a business after all is said and done, so we appreciate the look behind the playful pitter patter of the majority of the Residents.

And there are several others who work as a kind of informant, they contribute various tidbits of information that is added to our growing database and goes into the fullness of the tapestry we are weaving concerning Virtual Reality as it is currently.

Compiling this database in order to drill down closer and closer to the Mafia is both time consuming and requires much detail oriented "sniffing about". We persevere and are closing in but realize we still have much further to go. We are also seeing hints of an epiphany, growing closer to full realization daily, that to better ascertain the nature of the Mafia network, we may have to look into other FL type "grids".

This network has fingers into many aspects of this VR, and we are determined to ascertain it's whereabouts and inspect it's structure. Much of this will form the basis for the next team to continue.

Caput Octo~ fini

"Geometry existed before the creation of things, as eternal as the Spirit of God; it is God Himself and He gave Him the prototypes for the creation of the world." ~ Johannes Kepler ~ Harmonices Mundi, 1619

It is appropriate, nay, necessary, to finish this story at the numeral "8".

"For Jews 8 was the number which symbolized salvation, rebirth and regeneration: 8 members of Noah's family were saved in the time of the Great Flood and it was on the 8th day of his life that a boy child was circumcised, signifying his entrance into the covenant family of Israel, the chosen people of God.

But for early Christians 8 was the number which symbolized the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the formation of the New Covenant.  Jesus was raised on the day after the 7th day, which was the Sabbath, making Jesus Resurrection on the 8th day, Sunday, which was the first day of the week and the day of the New Creation just as the old Creation also began on what is the first day of the week.

It is for this reason that Christian churches built during the Byzantine period were 8-sided structures.  The rediscovery of the ruins of St. Peter's house in Capernaum was verified by the identification of a central room used for Christian worship which was reconfigured as an 8-sided room. The Catechism of the Catholic Church affirms the significance of the number 8 for Christians in article # 349: The eighth day.

But for us a new day has dawned: the day of Christ's Resurrection.  The seventh day completes the first creation.  The eight day begins the new creation. Thus, the work of creation culminates in the greater work of redemption. The first creation finds its meaning and its summit in the new creation in Christ, the splendor of which surpasses that of the first creation." [citation] [citation]

There has been a whirlwind of activity over these past several months. Most importantly, to me, is my engagement to Alford.

It works ...we are so much of a similar mind it was inevitable... truly.

Petty is thrilled and I have asked of her, and she accepted, to be one of my Bridesmaids.

As Alford and I have discussed in length, we feel it is best that I resign my authorities with VRAT while I attend myself to the various duties and obligations of the blissful state (of which I am certain will be) of marriage. I have submitted my resignation and it has been accepted.

My resignation of my contractual commitments will conclude by months end, 13 days hence. In the meantime I am hastening to tie up lose ends and bring the division to a place of order such that the following Administrator will be able to easily move forward with the goals and mission of the Division.

All has been done needed to accomplish this, data has been entered, collated, graphed, delegated, and much has been accomplished with the groundwork, with these virtual reality grids, with staffing, and administration of the various people in setting up the department to most fluidly and easily move forward in an equitable manner.

With the help of the excellent staff that Wilfred and others have hired, we have accomplished our task, and more.

While FifthLife has continued to remain our base grid simply due to its size, and thus its variety, and thus where the largest percent of the Mafia are based, we have also gathered information in the other iterations of this lifestyle, in other places.

We have found that, due to the monetary incentives, that the largest part of their activities are done inside the various commercialized systems that FL started.

Greed, as is common in human nature, always rules certain types of human thinking.

Deviancy of all sorts are preyed upon, and preyed, in turn, by those self-same predators upon others they perceive as weaker than themselves.

While we did find a large community of those participating in non-commercial, no currency places, since the financial incentives are not there, those who do have their hands in it, use both aspects to do their deeds in various regards, often of a proselytizing nature.

We have added more staff to enter these places and add to the large and growing data we have collected, all of which have been cleverly placed by Gabby to be easily used in various regards. Gabby, by the way, will continue on as a very well paid employee of CAT, has been given a wonderful penthouse apartment close by the complex, and will be on call to help in other divisions, occasionally...she is really that good.

Wilfred will be taking a leave of absence, his contract to be reviewed when, or if, he returns. I suspect his vacation will extend indefinitely, of his own desire.

Chrissy will also continue on with the department, and a fine raise in pay went with the offer for her to do so.

Petty will remain with me, by my side, helping me with my other obligations, and with my wedding arrangements as well. She truly is... a treasured and dependable friend. Alford is quite taken with how well she attends to my needs and, as well, he now considers her a friend, and a sometimes confidante concerning various rather more sensitive matters to us both.

I am not retiring, no, this is impossible for me now, and for some time to come. I still have an indefatigable desire to further explore the various levels of the human condition, they fascinate me. For now, however, I will expend my energies towards my fiancé, and help make plans for our future. I expect to be surprised regularly, to be thrilled, and to be romanced in the ways only a true cosmopolitan man-of-the-world, and of women, can know of.

Alford knows intrinsically that to be a true Man, as well as a gentle man of good taste, and also being intelligent, that the way to true happiness and well-being is to take care of the woman he loves, and treat her with truly understood respect, be gentle always, but also strong when required.

You see how excited I am...I simply cannot conclude this matter without continually interspersing my missive with conversation about Alford. C'est la vie, nicht wahr?

As the fruition of our growing more closely, the engagement, and the matter of it all happening during our time investigating VR, while along with our personal wedding, we will have another wedding inside FL. We think this will be so much fun, and done in ways one simply cannot do outside of VR...our minds are twirling with ideas and it makes for such fun conversations to imagine what we can do.

We have also made many interesting contacts inside VRs, so we are thinking some kind of Artistic, ephemeral, and dreamy style will be fun for us. Morrie will be the conceptual Artist, and we are in discussions with him already, he is a dear and fascinating Man.

So, my dear and faithful followers of this anecdote of my life, ends.

May your lives be filled with wonder and amazement, may you find true happiness, may you find your own soul-mate...we deserve these things, yes?

“Mothers tell your children 'Be quick, you must be strong. Life is full of wonder and love is never wrong.' Remember how they taught you; how much of it was fear. Refuse to hand it down: The legacy stops here.” ➳ Melissa Etheridge
